Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer 3-Day

Breast cancer is more apparent today than ever before in history. Although it is not a curable disease it is one that is fought and beaten every day. Today 1 in 4 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer. The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation is the most notable of its kind and raises millions of dollars to not only fight the battle, but win the war.
In my family, every generation so far has had breast cancer, so for me the likelihood of accumulating the disease later in my life is twice as likely than any other woman. This past December my Titi (aunt) was diagnosed with stage two breast cancer, although not as widespread as others, she received a double mastectomy and is continuing her cancer treatment through June. When my aunt got diagnosed my world was rocked. It became more real for me that life is shorter than I initially thought. Although my aunt's survival rate for battling this disease is 98% she is also 45 years old, too young to get cancer, so I thought. The reality is is that breast cancer is something that every woman will face someday whether it's themselves, a mother, a sister, a friend, we are all apart of the wrath of breast cancer.
I wish not only to walk the race for my aunt, but my grandmother and all of the other mothers, sisters, grandmothers, aunts, and friends out there. I will walk among the strong and powerful survivors as I accomplish something that is helping find a cure to end a war that has been going on far too long.
